BIOTOPES’ ECOLOGY

The term "biotope" literally means "place of life" in Greek. It can refer to any type of environment: a swamp, a meadow, a forest, or even a single rock.

The life that establishes itself within it, whether animal or plant, constitutes its biocenosis (from Greek, "community of life").

Together, the biotope and biocenosis create an ecosystem.

The ongoing urbanization of green areas reduces the presence of these valuable "places of life"; this gives rise to the need to preserve, manage, and sometimes even create these natural environments.
